YURIKO KUBOTA

Fragments

- the Shōwa Era in Japan -

May 1st to June 5th

For this exhibition Yuriko Kubota focuses on the energy she felt growing up in Tokyo during the Shōwa era (1926 - 1989) along with her fragmented memory of her father who passed away in 2020. Her father was a typical Japanese salaryman, who when the economy was growing; worked hard and drank even harder. Kubota photographed images from Shōwa era movies or newscasts, which connect her to this energy and these memories. She layers the images with mixed media to highlight and obscure, just like her recollection.

The exhibition will be presented virtually and in person. Each week in May (2022) Studio Little Red’s Gallery Box will rotate a new work from the series.
